UNISON to oppose HCPC’s 18% fees hike! Help us by taking part in our survey

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has proposed to increase its annual registration fee by a massive 18%. The proposals are contained within a new consultation and would see the annual registration fee rise from  £90 to £106, if adopted. The increase will affect all 16 professions regulated by HCPC and would take effect from October 2019. The proposed hike comes only three years after the controversial 12.5% rise in 2015 which saw fees increase from £80 to £90, despite a 5% increase the previous year.

The HCPC claims the increase is necessary to continue to invest in the services they offer to registrants, and to keep pace with the cost of inflation and the impact that the removal of social workers from the HCPC register will have when they are transferred to Social Work England in 2019.

UNISON argues that the HCPC should find the money through cost-saving plans and reducing the number of cases that reach the hearing stage. What’s more, registrants should not be punished for the government’s mishandling of the regulation of social workers.

UNISON will campaign against this fee increase and to do this we have launched a survey so that we can engage with our affected members to find out if they  believe they are getting value for money from their registration fee.  The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday 9 December.
